If your nursing glider has grown squeaky over the years, or the antique you purchased has an irritating sound to the gliding mechanism, you may need to take a few steps to get it back in working order.  First, you will want to take an old rag, and run it between the rails where the rubber bushings hold the glider arms together.  Make sure that you do not move the chair when you have your hands in this area, because pinching happens frequently and causes bleeding.

Once you have cleaned the excess debris, such as dust, pet hair, and carpet fibers, you will need to reapply some form of lubrication to the bushings.  You can use aerosol based cooking oils, or WD-40 brand lubrication oil.

You have to understand, though, that once the chair has been cleaned in this fashion, it is likely to attract dust and hair again, which means that you may be cleaning it more often than you would like.  If you are considering purchasing the nursing chair, and there is another model available that doesn’t squeak, it is advisable to reconsider your choices and go with a chair that doesn’t require as much work to keep it operating smoothly.

Some nursing gliders that you come across will have an odor to them.  If the nursing chair you have inside of your home has started smelling a bit funky, or the model you are looking at has an odor to it, you will want to either move onto the next available chair, or prepare to clean the fabric thoroughly.

When you own a nursing feeding chair, and you spill milk onto the fabric, you should clean up it as soon as possible.  There is a wide range of bacteria found in milk that over time begins to create odors that are virtually impossible to remove.  Using a warm cloth, and dish soap or other detergent based cleaners, you will want to lightly rub at the material until you are certain the milk has been removed.  The antibacterial agents inside of your cleansing solution should kill off any bacteria that remain.

To get rid of the smells if they already exist, you will need to run the cushions through your washing machine multiple times.  Once you have dried the cushions and covers, you will need to use Lysol, Febreeze, or another odor neutralizer to help break down any smells that remain.  If you take care of spills as they happen, and use a disinfecting spray to prevent bacteria growth, you should be able to keep your chair smelling brand new.
